Biography

Allen’s music career started at age nine when he joined the Singing Boys of Houston (now the Houston Boychoir), a professional touring boychoir.

After singing his way through middle school (and trying the trombone for a couple of years) he was accepted into Houston’s prestigious High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) as a vocal major. It was at HSPVA that he began working with audio gear; running the sound system for live performances and recording recitals.

But it was during his tenure in the San Jacinto Community College recording program that Allen’s recording career officially took off. Right after graduation, he formed Hear & There Recording and Sound, and immersed himself in every facet of audio production:

• Location recording for classical/acoustic music
• Audio for video and television production
• Live sound reinforcement
• Training
• Consulting

In 1999 Allen turned his sights to audio mastering. He began his mastering career at Essential Sound Mastering, located in the historic SugarHill Recording Studios complex. Allen quickly made a name for himself, and by the summer of 2003, took over the reins as chief mastering engineer.

The 12 years that Allen spent at Essential Sound Mastering helped him establish a deeply-respected reputation, and a trusting client base, as he mastered projects ranging from classical to country. That expertise and a desire to stretch his skills even further convinced Allen to strike out on his own. In October 2011 he formed Allen Corneau Mastering, which is now open for business!

Allen is a full-voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (aka “The Grammys”), as well as a full member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES). Allen is an active supporter of the Houston music scene and musicians around the world.
